Despatch & Dress Course

If you are thinking of raising meat chickens, then this course is an absolute must. Ben Millard is DEFRA authorised and will guide you through every step of the way from despatch to dress.

During this course you will be taught to dispatch a chicken quickly and humanely, you will be helped individually when it is your turn. You will then be shown how to pluck the bird quikly and with minimal effort, that chicken is then put aside for you to take home. You will gut and joint a previously prepared chicken -you take home the jointed chicken together with your freshly despatched and plucked chicken and instructions on how to prepare it at home.

Sandfields Farm Fresh was set up in 2009 by Ben with help from my parents. The idea being to use the family farm to produce high quality free range produce with complete traceability sold directy to the consumer, understanding that consumers would like to know exactly where their food comes from, how it has been produced and by whom.

In February 2009 he converted one of the barns (demolished by the snow) into a cold room and cutting room. These facilities are fully registered and controlled by the WODC environmental health and is where the meat handling takes place.  This is where the course will be held so please dress warmly.

Over on the farm, buildings are used to rear chickens from day old untill they are ready go outside, range free and have the most natural life as possible. Other barns are used for the winter housing of the sheep and dexter cattle, for lambing and calving.

Coffee and home made cake will be a welcome break half way through your time with Ben, you will recieve a set of full instructions and a Cotswold Chickens goodie bag.

Cost is £60 for a single person and £80 for a couple sharing. Payment must be made in full prior to the course.
